Ruto Strikes Deal With Slovakia on Electric Vehicles

President William Ruto has signed an agreement with Slovakia that will facilitate Kenya’s transition to e-mobility.

On Monday, September 18 in New York, while attending the United Nations General Assembly, the President met with Slovakian President Zuzana Caputova to negotiate two significant agreements.

In a statement to newsrooms, the State House communicated that Ruto and Caputova concurred on the acquisition of Slovakian advanced battery technologies that will be used to power electric vehicles in Kenya.

“He also met Slovakia President Zuzana Caputova who committed to supporting Kenya’s E-mobility initiatives using their advanced e-battery technologies,” the statement read in parts.

President Ruto explained that Kenya is at a crucial juncture for advancing her economy via global partnerships with nations that possess more advanced technologies.

As Kenyans express wrath and frustration over the high cost of petroleum products, the President has been at the forefront of promoting e-mobility.

Ruto remarked that Slovakia is home to several companies that are developing advanced e-battery technologies, which are extremely important for Kenya as it transitions to renewable energy.

The Slovakian lithium-ion batteries of the next iteration of electric vehicles are designed to be more energy-dense, have a longer lifespan, and charge more quickly.

Additionally, Slovakia is developing advanced battery technologies, including solid-state batteries. The anticipated benefits of solid-state batteries over lithium-ion batteries include greater energy density, longer lifespans, and faster charging rates.

Other technologies include lightweight and durable battery components made from carbon fiber, which are suitable for use in electric vehicles.

Additionally, Slovakian businesses are renowned for the creation of battery management systems, battery testing and validation companies, and battery recycling businesses.

The Energy Petroleum and Regulatory Authority (EPRA) published the fuel prices for the 15th of September through the 14th of October.

In Nairobi, EPRA increased the price per liter of Super Petrol to Ksh211.64, Diesel to Ksh200.99, and Kerosene to Ksh202.61.
