Ruto Says He Handed ODM Treasury Ministry to Avoid Zakayo Tag: “Sitaki Kuitwa Peke Yangu”
President William Ruto has now disclosed that he purposefully assigned the National Treasury to the opposition as a strategic move to distance himself from accusations of economic mismanagement.
In a recent announcement, the president put forward ODM’s departing national chairman, John Mbadi, as his nominee for the position of Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury.
This decision was revealed during a speech he gave in Baringo on Friday, August 2. The president implied that this move was intended to foster a sense of shared responsibility regarding the nation’s economic trajectory, suggesting that it was part of an effort to deflect persistent criticisms about the state of the economy.

Ruto’s comments indicate that he is seeking to distribute the accountability for economic performance more evenly, possibly as a way to mitigate the relentless scrutiny he faces over economic issues.
By appointing a prominent opposition figure to a key financial role, he seems to be signaling a desire for a more collaborative approach to governance and economic management.
He further argued that for Kenya to fully achieve its economic potential, individuals from all political backgrounds need to come together and work towards common goals.
This reflects his belief that overcoming economic challenges requires broad-based cooperation beyond party lines.
“I said let me create a broad-based government so that we can everyone onboard and ask each other questions and find solutions to our debt. I don’t want to be called Zakayo alone. Those calling me names think the monies collected from Kenyans as tax go to my accounts. The money goes to the Kenyans’ account. I will continue to bring everyone so that we find answers to our problems,” Ruto said.
