Ruto Revokes Appointment of Ex-Senator Otieno Kajwang’s Brother

President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of the late Senator Otieno Kajwang’s sibling, Joseph Okoto Ajwang, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency.

The announcement was made in a Gazette notice published on Friday by Ruto.
The appointments of both Ajwang and Jeridah Bosibori Mbaka, who held the same position, were revoked.

The President replaced them with Millicent Oduor Olando and Mwita Maisoro, whose terms began on Friday, September 1.

“I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Millicent Oduor Olando and Mwita Maisoro to be members of the Board of Directors of the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency, established vide Legal Notice No. 28 of 2019, with effect from September 1, 2023 up to the 4th July, 2025,” read the notice in part.

“The appointments of Jeridah Bosibori Mbaka and Joseph Okoto Ajwang are revoked.”

Ajwang was appointed to the position in July 2022 by the former Cabinet Secretary of the Water Ministry, James Macharia.

The member was appointed to the board alongside Bosibori and was anticipated to serve for three years at the time.

Other board members included, among others, Cavince Owidi (Chairman), Chrispine Juma (Acting CEO), Joyce Mong’are (member), and Joseph Mbatha (representing the Treasury CS).

Until November 2014, when Kajwang passed away, his brother served as his closest confidant and fought for his fortunes.

In 2018, he disclosed that despite having conducted numerous transactions with his sibling, a Sh15 million debt remained unpaid following his passing.

He joined the list of claimants to Kajwang’s wealth, which included Rose Bujehela Otieno and Faith Vivian Otieno, who both claimed to be the deceased senator’s widows.


The court case is still pending.
