Ruto Re-Appoints Charles Nyachae to Govt Role
President William Ruto has officially re-appointed Charles Nyachae as the Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government (KSG). Nyachae, who previously vied for the role of IEBC Chair, will now serve another three-year term at KSG.
In a notice published in the Kenya Gazette, President Ruto confirmed the appointment, stating it takes effect immediately. The appointment falls under section 6(1)(a) of the Kenya School of Government Act.
Nyachae was one of the final candidates shortlisted to lead the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). However, the position eventually went to Erastus Ethekon, who has since taken over the role.
Alongside Nyachae, President Ruto also made two other key appointments:
Abdi Mude Ibrahim, former MP for Lafey (2017–2022), will now chair the Board of Directors at the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute for a three-year term.

Ali Noor Ismail, who previously served as Principal Secretary in various ministries under the Jubilee government, has been named Chairperson of the Pest Control Products Board. Ismail’s experience includes stints as Labour PS, Cooperatives PS, and briefly as Environment and Forestry PS between 2018 and 2019.
Nyachae was among four final candidates shortlisted for the IEBC top job, alongside Erastus Ethekon, Anne Amadi, and Abdulqadir Lorot H. Ramadhan. They were picked from a pool of 11 applicants.
However, before the IEBC interviews, Nyachae faced a court petition aiming to block him and fellow candidate Joy Midivo from being interviewed. The petition claimed that their current or previous roles as state officers made them ineligible for the IEBC position.
Specifically, the petitioner argued that Nyachae’s role as Chair of the Kenya School of Government Council disqualified him from the IEBC race, citing constitutional and governance concerns. The case called for the High Court to stop their interviews until the issue was addressed.
According to gazette records, Nyachae’s initial KSG term ran from January 24, 2024, to July 12, 2025. His re-appointment now extends his leadership at the institution for another three years.
