Ruto Points Accusing Finger at Azimio, Alleging Mungiki Sect Revival Plot

Yesterday, President William Ruto accused Azimio la Umoja One Kenya of hatching a plot to resurrect the illegal Mungiki sect.

During his speech in Kirinyaga County, which took place after the official opening of the Kerugoya Referral Hospital, President Ruto accused the opposition of conspiring to use the sect to sow discord throughout the country.

He stated that the government was on high alert and would not permit the revival of the group, which he characterized as being extremely hazardous. He said that the government was vigilant.

“We will not allow proscribed groups. The opposition is making an effort to convey to us that they desire Mungiki’s return. That they should come and start businesses related to bhang… that they should come and collect illegal taxes from citizens… that they should come and harass our women,” President Ruto stated. “I want to say to the leaders of the opposition, please, good people, if you think it’s important for Mungiki, please take your children to Mungiki affairs,” I want to say. The children of the country need peace.

He continued, saying, “We are aware of the losses that they have caused us.” Mungiki tormented our youth, and the fact that there are still people in this day and age who want to engage in the illegitimate taxation of citizens is incomprehensible to us. Those individuals who want to bring about this chaos and those who want to involve Mungiki in political affairs should refrain from doing so. They ought to formulate their ideologies and engage in ideological competition with us.

However, in a rebuttal, Azimio asserted that President Ruto’s comments were an indication that a crackdown on purported members of the Mungiki was about to take place in the Mount Kenya region.

According to the report, there are numerous reasons to believe that the crackdown will also take place in certain neighborhoods of Nairobi.

“On behalf of our party, we would like to strongly encourage Kenya Kwanza not to avoid its obligations. “The same young people this government now sees as Mungiki and other types of criminals are the same ones it mobilized as foot soldiers for the now-failed promise of economic revival,” Azimio said in a statement yesterday. “The promise of economic revival has now failed.”

DP Claims

In the region of Kirinyaga, the situation was kicked off by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who lashed out at the opposition by claiming that they were behind a plot to bring back the dangerous gang.

According to Mr. Gachagua, Mungiki had a history of raping women, collecting illegal levies from matatu operators, and oppressing fat mers in rural areas. These activities should not be tolerated in any part of the country, and Mr. Gachagua said Mungiki should be disbanded.

He went on to say that the group recently caused a stir in the Mt. Kenya region when they were witnessed singing traditional songs in front of the headquarters of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Nairobi while demanding the release of Mr. Maim Njenga. This caused shockwaves to spread throughout the region.

“I want to tell Kenyans not to panic, there will be no return of Mungiki,” Mr. Gachagua said.

The President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto, stated that he was aware of the plans to bring Mungiki back, but he promised to ensure that this does not occur.

He stated that “we cannot allow the opposition to drag us back to the dark days when people lived in fear of being terrorized and exploited by the Mungiki gang.” “We can’t allow the opposition to drag us back to the dark days.”

Around two weeks ago, the Cabinet Secretary for the Interior, Kithure Kindiki, made allegations that there was a plot to resurrect the outlawed group in the Mount Kenya region.

He declared all-out war against them and accused a group of current and former political leaders of trying to resurrect the group by enlisting new members among younger people.

Azimio leaders came to Mr. Njenga’s defense when he was recently called in by the police and accused the state of harassing the former leader of the Mungiki tribe.

Mr. Njenga was accompanied by the leaders of Azimio, led by Martha Karua, as they went to the headquarters of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for questioning. This was done as a show of solidarity.

“Profiling Mt Kenya youth”

They stated that the administration of Kenya Kwanza was attempting to gain political and economic dominance, and they accused the administration of Kenya Kwanza of attempting to profile young people from Mount Kenya by associating them with a criminal organization.

A week ago, Mr. Odinga suggested that the government was singling out young people from Mt. Kenya and associating them with Mungiki.

“It is so unfortunate that in this day and age, somebody is trying to use the same tactics and methods that were used by the British to try and isolate the youth of this region. It is so unfortunate that in this day and age, somebody is trying to do this. “There has been an attempt to artificially recreate and re-establish the Mungiki movement,” Mr. Odinga charged.

Yesterday, Azimio released a statement in which it stated that its members will not remain silent while the Kenya Kwanza regime engages in extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearances, as they have in the past.

In addition, it was stated that the young people believe they have been used, abandoned, betrayed, and left out in the cold after being promised employment opportunities during the campaigns.

They are victims of a false dawn and broken promises, and they are not criminals. These young people don’t deserve guns and bullets; they deserve a deal. We are requesting President Ruto to fulfill his campaign pledges to the younger generation by providing them with the education and employment opportunities he said he would. According to the statement, “Kenya Kwanza must admit failure and restore programs such as Kazi Mtaani that the previous government introduced to assist these young Kenyans in earning a living.”

Alternately, the opposition has requested that the government consider providing cash transfers to those who are the most vulnerable during these difficult times as an alternative to the Hustler Fund program, which they assert is ineffective.

Many people in the area are dissatisfied with the ongoing fight against alcoholism and the high cost of living, and Mr. Njenga is seen as a major threat to Mr. Gachagua’s efforts to consolidate the Mt. Kenya region under the administration of Kenya Kwanza. Mr. Njenga is hailed as a great mobilizer, and some people see him as a major threat to Mr. Gachagua’s efforts.
