Ruto Picks Renson Ingonga as Next DPP
Renson Mulele Ingonga has been nominated by President William Ruto to be the next Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
In a memorandum to the National Assembly dated Thursday, August 17, the Head of State stated that Ingonga is a qualified attorney who will serve with distinction.
Ruto, therefore, requested that members of the National Assembly examine the nominee by the law.
Ingonga was one of thirty candidates shortlisted for interviews that lasted more than a week in Nairobi.
The selection committee ultimately presented President Ruto with a list of three competent candidates, from which he chose Ingonga.
The Assistant Director at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is Ingonga. He’s the current head of the ODPP’s North Eastern Region and Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Unit.
He received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi and his Master of Laws in International Criminal Law from the University of Cape Town. He also holds certifications as a mediator and arbitrator.
Ingonga has extensive experience in criminal law, with a particular emphasis on economic offenses and corruption.
He is an ardent proponent of justice and human rights. Regardless of the circumstances, he is committed to ensuring that the law is applied fairly and impartially.
The panel highlighted the qualifications and experience necessary for the position of DPP, including a recognized law degree.
Ingonga also met the requirements of being licensed as an attorney to the High Court of Kenya and having served as a magistrate for at least ten years.

He has served at the Directorate of Public Prosecution for nearly a decade as a career prosecutor.
As DPP, Ingonga will lead the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Kenya’s national prosecutorial agency.
Except for military cases, which are handled by the Director of Military Prosecutions, he will be responsible for prosecuting all criminal cases within the country.
Even though he will be appointed by the President with the sanction of the National Assembly, Ingonga will make prosecutorial decisions professionally and without political influence or interference.
By his responsibilities, Ingonga will assume and continue any criminal proceedings initiated or initiated by another person or authority.
He will also halt criminal proceedings at any point before the issuance of a verdict, as well as direct and oversee criminal investigations.
In addition, Ingonga will manage international relations matters, such as extradition and Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA).
The Director of Public Prosecution will also provide counsel to government ministries, departments, agencies, and county governments regarding the development and application of criminal law.
Ingonga succeeded Noordin Haji, who was designated director of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) on June 14.
