Ruto Exposes Massive Fraud in Huduma Namba: Ksh.15B Lost, Little Gained

President William Ruto disclosed that the country lost Ksh.15 billion. As a result of the Uhuru Kenyatta administration’s efforts to launch the controversial Huduma Namba project.

On Friday, Dr. Ruto referred to the project as “a complete fraud.” And announced that the government will launch a similar initiative within 90 days.

Dr. Ruto stated, “Huduma Namba was a complete fraud, as we lost nearly Ksh.15 billion and received very little in return.”

The Huduma Namba digital ID was intended to be a unique and permanent Personal Identification Number. Assigned randomly to every resident individual at birth or upon registration/enrolment. And to expire or be retired only upon the individual’s demise.

President Ruto spoke at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). During the launch of more than 5,000 digital government services on the eCitizen Kenya Portal, also known as ‘Gava Mkononi.’

Dr. Ruto was shown how government agencies are digitizing their programs. And how this will make it easier for Kenyans to access government services as he toured various government agencies.

The Head of State stated that, in contrast to Huduma Namba, his government will launch its digital ID initiative at a significantly lower cost.

“We must demonstrate in the next ninety days that we can obtain a digital ID without spending Ksh.15 billion and without defrauding the Kenyan people,” declared President William Ruto.

“Those who did that should be ashamed of themselves.”

The Gava Mkononi application is promoted as one that will improve access to government services and revenue collection, as well as service delivery.

Gava Express, modeled after Huduma Centers, will streamline services and provide services at the local level.

Gava Express will be led in collaboration with the private sector and aims to establish over 300,000 outlets.
