Ruto Appoints Kenyan Ambassador to US Lazarus Amayo to New Role
On Tuesday, President William Ruto appointed Lazarus Amayo, the United States Ambassador to Kenya, as the Special Envoy of the African Union Champion for Institutional Reforms.
Ruto highlighted in his announcement that Amayo would assist the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in carrying out the President’s specific responsibilities as a member of the African Union.
Amayo is particularly expected to be instrumental in advancing AU’s institutional reforms, working in coordination with the State Department for Foreign Affairs and the African Union institutions.
Lazarus Amayo is the outgoing Kenyan ambassador to the United States and has held various senior public positions.
Among his previous roles, he served as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations (2018-2020) and as the High Commissioner of Kenya to the United Kingdom (2014-2018).
He also represented Kenya as the Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Commonwealth Organization.

Additionally, the President has appointed Simon Mwangi Kamau as the new Deputy State House Comptroller, with the approval of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
Kamau is the immediate past Secretary General of the Amani National Congress Party (ANC), led by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
He is also a High Court of Kenya advocate with over ten years of experience in law, management, strategic planning, and policy development.
The new deputy comptroller has a Master of Law degree from the University of Nairobi, a postgraduate diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University in Uganda.
He has also completed postgraduate studies in Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the renowned Manning School of Business, University of Massachusetts.
“With the vast expertise and experience of the newly appointed officials, I am confident that they will significantly contribute to the achievement of our collective goals,” Ruto stated.
