Ruto Announces Fuel to Reduce Further in December
In December, President William Ruto assured Kenyans of an additional decrease in petroleum prices.
The Head of State disclosed on Saturday, while touring Kirinyaga County, that the December price adjustments will be substantial in comparison to the Ksh2 reduction that the Energy and Petroleum Authority (EPRA) announced this month.
Ruto assigned the decrease in prices to a multitude of initiatives implemented by the government to alleviate the financial strain on Kenyan citizens.
He conceded that the prices remained exorbitant, resulting in a significant surge in the cost of living.
The Secretary-General elaborated that the escalating global fuel prices were impeding the government’s efforts to further reduce fuel costs.
At the moment, the respective retail prices for one liter of Super Petro, Diesel, and Kerosene are Ksh217.36, Ksh203.47, and Ksh203.05.

“You have seen that we have started to reduce the price of fuel. Next month the price will be reduced much more. That will also be the case in January until we get to a sustainable price,” he stated.
Conversely, the President elucidated that the government-to-government agreement with Saudi Arabia was advantageous for Kenya, as it enabled the country to procure crude at reduced costs relative to other nations.
He observed that other nations were engaging in direct negotiations with other energy producers to reduce the price of fuel products, a course of action that mirrored his own.
About Uganda’s prohibition of Kenyan firms from importing oil on its behalf, he made these remarks. The businesses were alleged to have inflated petroleum products for financial gain.
“Those who sell it to us are the ones who sell it to us at their discretion. We will still look at the price and talk to them. What I can assure you is that Kenya gets its fuel at a cheaper price compared to other countries.
“I know things are hard and we have to deal with them. We will work to bring change,” he promised.
