President William Ruto has outlined a timeline for reviving the Kazi Mtaani program, responding to demands from Kisumu residents who sought clarity on his stance regarding the initiative.

Addressing a rally in Kondele, Kisumu County, the President assured locals that the project would be reintroduced within the next month.

President Ruto urged the community to prepare and register for the program, emphasizing its potential to alleviate unemployment in the country.

“I assure the youths that Kazi Mtaani will be reactivated within the next month, so get ready,” President Ruto declared.

During his visit, members of the Bunge la Wananchi, a local citizens’ assembly, appealed to the President to restore the program.

“On behalf of the Citizens Assembly, we express our gratitude. Please bring back the Kazi Mtaani program as soon as possible,” one resident urged.

“During Uhuru’s tenure, the payment was Ksh700, but we request an increase to Ksh1,000 per day,” a local added.

This announcement follows President Ruto’s decision to rebrand the Kazi Mtaani program to Climate Work Mtaani.

Speaking at the National Youth Service (NYS) pass-out ceremony in Gilgil, Nakuru County, on August 26, President Ruto stated that the NYS would manage the new initiative.

“I also want to announce that the NYS will oversee the young people recruited under our Climate Work Mtaani initiative,” President Ruto said.

The President highlighted the importance of rebranding the program, explaining that its primary focus would be on tackling climate change through proactive measures.

“This program aims to engage more young people in greening Kenya, enhancing environmental sustainability, and addressing climate change through our established climate action initiatives,” President Ruto explained.
