Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has joined other Ukambani leaders in denouncing the individuals who disrupted Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s press conference at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation on Wednesday.

Mutula stated, “It is unacceptable for any presidential candidate to be driven away by thugs. This is highly regrettable, and ODM must show Kalonzo Musyoka the respect he deserves.”

During the press conference, the Wiper leader was interrupted by a group of over 50 youths who invaded the tent, insisting they would not tolerate any leader showing disrespect towards Raila.

The youths protested loudly, declaring, “No one disrespects Raila while we are here; no press conference today,” as they upended chairs.

The leaders were quickly escorted to safety, abruptly ending the press briefing. This occurred after the Azimio Coalition leadership had announced their refusal to participate in the proposed broad-based talks following Raila’s departure from the event.

Mutula emphasized that although Kalonzo has remained loyal to Raila, he has repeatedly faced betrayal.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has since apologized to the media following the rough treatment journalists received from the goons at his event.

Raila vowed that Azimio would investigate how the goons managed to bypass security and disrupt the event.

“Raila Odinga regrets what happened yesterday and extends his sincere apologies to the journalists and leaders affected by this unfortunate incident,” said his spokesperson Dennis Onyango.

“Hon. Odinga assures that the coalition will review the events, address any security gaps, and ensure the safety and freedom of journalists and leaders at all Azimio functions, including future events at the same venue.”

Mutula further asserted that Kalonzo will no longer tolerate Raila’s tactics but will stay focused on his goals.

“As Kamba leaders under Kalonzo’s guidance, we will not back down. Raila should align with Ruto and stop trying to force us to follow him,” he declared.

Mutula also stated that the Ukambani region will support Kalonzo’s presidential campaign in 2027.

He emphasized that the country needs peace and adherence to the Constitution, asserting that Kalonzo is the dependable leader who can guide Kenya towards prosperity.

“It’s been two years since these officials were elected, during which they’ve acquired helicopters and are living comfortably. I trust that Kalonzo will not exploit the poor Kenyans,” Mutula remarked.

He urged the rioters and looters, claiming to be Gen Z, to stop their destructive behavior and instead pursue peace.

Kisungi Katete, the majority leader in the Makueni County Assembly, and others present at the event echoed Mutula’s sentiments.
