Raila’s Repair Bill: Damaged Bullet-Proof Car’s Cost

Raila Odinga has consistently remained a significant force in Kenyan politics, challenging the authority of various presidents, except the country’s founding father, the late Jomo Kenyatta. In his roles as Azimio Principal and Leader of the Opposition, Raila Odinga has held both of these positions.

Raila has consistently discovered new ways to maintain his relevance in Kenyan politics, even though he has lost all five of Kenya’s presidential elections. One of his more long-lasting strategies has been to call for demonstrations, which has provided a stage for people in Kenya who are being oppressed to have their voices heard.

Regrettably, some of these protests have resulted in violent confrontations between police and protesters, which have led to injuries and even fatalities. Raila, himself, has not been shielded from the dangers that are associated with these demonstrations.

Raila has organized several protests to challenge the results of the general election that was won by President William Ruto in 2022. These protests have taken place since the election. Unfortunately, as a result of these protests, there have been people killed and injured.

Raila has also asserted that he has been the target of these demonstrations, citing instances in which his vehicles have been vandalized by police officers who were attempting to put an end to the demonstrations.

On Friday, July 7, during the Saba Saba demonstrations that took place all over the country, his car was reportedly shot at by the police once again.

It is said that live bullets fired by law enforcement officers caused dents in the side of the luxury vehicle that had been used by the previous Prime Minister. In addition to that, the rear windshield was cracked.

While speaking to journalists at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation (JOOF), Raila accused the police of attempting to take his life during their interview.
“They were obstructing our path as we attempted to make our way to the KICC. Raila stated that they were also firing in our direction while they were doing so.

Given that at least one vehicle in Raila’s convoy is vandalized during the protests, one of the major talking points that emerged from those demonstrations on Friday was regarding the amount of money that Raila spends to repair his vehicles.

Geoffrey Gitau, who works for Yaya Mechanics and was interviewed by Kenyans.co.ke on Saturday, July 8, stated that the cost of repair is determined by the severity of the impact, as well as the size and model of the vehicle. How deeply the bullet was embedded in the vehicle’s cabin is another component that plays a role in determining the total cost of repairs.

The automobile specialist estimated that the cost to repair the exterior damages would be at least 150,000 Kenyan Shillings. He observed that the cost listed here includes a brand-new coat of paint throughout the entire house.

He did however explain that the price could skyrocket if there is more damage to the interior of the vehicle.

Gitau emphasized once more that the repair of the car seats was necessary after the removal of the bullets from within them.

“It depends on the level of penetration and the components that the bullet went through,” Gitau said. “This includes the electrical component that enables window rolling and speakers, as well as whether or not the window base was shattered.”

According to the opinions of various other automotive specialists, the impact that bullet holes have on a vehicle and the measures that need to be taken to repair them are virtually identical to those of other types of holes. The diameter of the hole is the most important consideration in determining how to proceed with the repair. Utilizing a body filler kit is highly recommended by specialists as the most effective method for repairing bullet holes.

Fixing minor dents and holes in a vehicle, such as those caused by bullet holes, is conceptually comparable to fixing holes caused by other types of damage. The fundamental procedures include applying filler, shaping and smoothing the surface, priming, and painting.

A post that has been shared on Road Sumo, a publication that is managed by a group of people who are passionate about the upkeep of their vehicles, states that “it is not that difficult and would cost you next to nothing compared to taking it to an auto shop to be fixed.”
