Raila’s Generosity: Mau Mau Veteran Receives Ksh 600K Towards Ksh 3M Hospital Bill
Sunday, June 18th, the family of Brigadier John Kiboko, a Mau Mau veteran. Pleaded with the government for assistance in paying his Ksh3 million hospital bill.
Maina Kiambati, the son of the freedom fighter. Lamented that they were struggling to pay a portion of Kiboko’s hospital bill.
However, they were grateful to Raila Odinga, the opposition leader. Who provided the Ksh600,000 deposit required before doctors could attend to the Mau Mau veteran.
A group of descendants of Mau Mau war veterans was also praised for rushing the ailing brigadier to the hospital.
“He has been in the hospital for approximately four weeks, and no government official has offered assistance. We want to implore the government to assist us in paying the multimillion-dollar bill.

“Even if they do not visit him in the hospital, we will be grateful for the financial assistance because we have done everything we can,” Kiambati pleaded, adding that he was responding well to treatment but could not be discharged.
In addition, the family disclosed that the Mau Mau fighter became ill on May 13 after attending the funeral of the late Field Marshal Mukami Kimathi.
Veterans argued that Kiboko’s sacrifices in the fight for freedom merited government assistance and recognition.
“We cannot pay this bill by ourselves. If undiagnosed, he will be required to remain hospitalized. A representative of the association lamented, “We are asking the government to act swiftly before the last of the Mau Mau people find their eternal home.”
On June 10, the veterans asserted that they were duped by individuals posing as government officials privy to a Ksh50 billion support fund.
Some of them were allegedly required to pay a Ksh10,000 registration fee to gain access to the purported funds.
“They lied that they would buy us the property and even claimed that Ksh50 billion had been disbursed. Others were required to pay Ksh1,000 in registration fees and a further Ksh5,000 later on lamented one member.
On the same day, Vice President Rigathi Gachagua pledged his full support to the son of Mau Mau freedom fighter General Musa Mwariama after admitting that the government was required to honor freedom fighters.
Gachagua had previously challenged Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio, to rally support for the veterans during their supremacy dispute.
