Raila’s Car Damaged in Saba Saba Clash

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Party, had his vehicle damaged on Friday as protesters and anti-riot police fought in ongoing street battles.

At a rally that Odinga had called at the Kamukunji Grounds, he had rallied his supporters to get the ball rolling on an initiative that Odinga claims is intended to oust President William Ruto and his government from their positions of power.

After delivering his speech at the Kamukunji rally, Odinga called on the people who support him to make their way to Central Park in the central business district of Nairobi, where he was going to deliver another speech.

The convoy that is being led by Odinga to Azimio will, however, be met with force by a heavily armed contingent of anti-riot police officers who are determined to prevent the thousands of protesters who are following the opposition leader from entering the city center.

The police had issued a warning earlier that the city center was a no-go zone for those participating in the Saba Saba demonstrations.

Several vehicles in the opposition leader’s convoy, including the vehicle that he was driving, had their rear windows shattered as a result of the melee.

The leaders of Azimio were compelled to make a hasty escape for their own safety and head to the center of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation (JOOF), where the damage on the vehicles was inspected in front of the press.

While speaking to the media, Odinga stated that his vehicle had been struck by a live bullet that had been fired by the police, who, according to Odinga, were aiming for his life.
