Raila Welcomes NDC Report But States It Falls Short
The Azimio Parliamentary Group (PG) on Wednesday endorsed the recommendations submitted by the National Dialogue Committee (NDC).
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)leader noted the one pressing thing the talks failed to address was the cost of living noting that the coalition had come up with new ways to deal with the government’s failure to address it.
According to Raila, the way forward will include consultations with the people to address the pending issues such as the cost of living, further, the coalition would seek a referendum for certain aspects of the talks such as the institutionalization of the officer of the Leader of the Opposition and the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
“At all times we will retain the right to call on the people to take steps that we deem necessary to force the government to lower the cost of living,” Rail said.
“We will be engaging Kenyans further in the coming weeks as we must because the pain of the cost of living is really unbearable.”
However, despite describing the report as a good start, Azimio Chief Raila Odinga termed the report as incomplete since it did not address the most pertinent issues such as the cost of living.

“We made what we believe were reasonable proposals on how to address the cost of living but the government refused terming it the exclusive business and further arguing they got the mandate of Kenyans to exercise the Kenya Kwanza Agenda,” Odinga noted.
According to Odinga, Kenya Kwanza and Azimio agreed on several things but failed to reach a consensus on the cost of living which President William Ruto has described as an emotive issue.
Speaking after the PG meeting, Raila criticised the government’s stand claiming that it will continue to effect Housing Levy deductions. Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has claimed that the government will proceed to make the deductions despite the court order.
According to Raila, the court had already pronounced itself on the matter and any attempt to stray against the court’s directions is unconstitutional.
The former Prime Minister called on the employers to stop the deductions with immediate effect.
