Raila Reveals Position He’ll Endorse Mbadi For in 2027

Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party, declared his endorsement for John Mbadi, a nominated Member of Parliament, to reclaim the Suba South seat in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Raila, the leader of the Azimio Coalition Party, expressed during the Sindo Recruitment Rally in Suba South, Homabay County, that he felt betrayed by the current Suba South MP, Caroli Omondi.

Caroli secured the ODM ticket leading up to the 2022 general election but promptly declared allegiance to President William Ruto upon winning the seat.

The ex-prime minister declared that because of the betrayal by Caroli Omondi, the ODM candidacy for 2027 will be reserved for Mbadi, who serves as the chairman of the ODM party.

“We willingly gave Caroli the ODM ticket when he expressed his intention to vie for MP in South Suba after Mbadi dropped out; that is why he won,” Raila stated.

“However, I was shocked to learn that Caroli decided to change his stance and join Ruto, citing development as his reason.”

Before the 2022 general election, Mbadi had participated in and emerged victorious in three successive parliamentary elections.

He initially served as a Member of Parliament for Gwasi before gaining election to represent Suba South in 2013.

Caroli received the ODM nomination in 2022 when Mbadi opted out of the nomination process, focusing on his aspirations for the Homa Bay gubernatorial position.

Governor Gladys Wanga ultimately received the gubernatorial candidacy, while Mbadi competed for a parliamentary nomination position.

In February 2023, Caroli was one of nine rebellious Members of Parliament who went to the State House in Nairobi to declare their allegiance to President William Ruto.

Raila expressed his displeasure at Caroli’s actions, highlighting his frustration given the extensive support he had provided over the years, which included advocating for Caroli to secure a position at the World Bank.

As Wanga is currently serving her initial term as governor, Raila advised Mbadi to embrace his previous role in parliament.

“When a son wants to build a house, the father must be present. That’s why I am standing by Mbadi as he builds a new house here in Suba, supporting him to build it strongly,” he stated in his endorsement.
