Raila Holds Crucial Meeting with MPs As Kenya Kwanza Takes Bold Steps to Safeguard Ongoing Talks

Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya, will preside today over a coalition parliamentary group (PG) meeting whose resolutions could reignite his conflict with President William Ruto.

This, even though it became apparent that the government was willing to adhere to the opposition’s four non-negotiable minimums to revive the stalled bipartisan talks.

The special PG meeting is anticipated to make a decision regarding the dissolution of the talks. Conduct housekeeping before the resumption of National Assembly sittings the following week, and discuss the controversial Finance Bill 2023.

Today is the last day of Mr. Odinga’s six-day ultimatum for the Kenya Kwanza team to address their four primary concerns.

The coalition requested preliminary actions regarding the cost of living. The preservation of the electoral agency’s servers, the suspension of the commissioners’ selection panel. And an end to interference with Azimio affiliate parties.

Yesterday, the co-principal of Azimio, Eugene Wamalwa. Stated that if Kenya Kwanza did not commit to addressing the four concerns, they would end the negotiations today.

Mr. Wamalwa told the Nation yesterday, “Our counterparts in Kenya Kwanza have not been serious about the talks, and we have made it clear that if they do not commit by tomorrow (today), the talks will be dissolved.”

Even as the former Defence Cabinet Secretary spoke harshly. The GossipA2Z reported that President Ruto’s camp was frantically attempting to save the negotiations.

A source stated yesterday, “I do not anticipate the breakdown of the negotiations because I am aware that the Kenya Kwanza side has pledged in a letter to our team that it is willing to address our concerns and take preliminary action.”

However, it was unclear whether the government was prepared to meet all of the demands.

MP Otiende Amollo (Rarieda, ODM), the co-chair of the bipartisan talks team. Stated that he will update today’s PG on the latest developments. “So that it and the principals can make the final decision on the matter.” His co-chair, Member of Parliament George Murugara (Tharaka, UDA), remained evasive as to whether Kenya Kwanza had ceded ground to Azimio.

Senator Hillary Sigei of Bomet, a member of the Kenya Kwanza team. Appeared to be aware of the most recent developments, stating that the talks would resume this week.

“We hope to resume negotiations within the next week. Mr. Sigei stated that we tasked our co-chairs with finding a solution to the thorny issues that had stalled the negotiations.

National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi disclosed that in addition to an update on the bipartisan talks. The special PG, which will take place at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka command center in Karen, Nairobi. Will allow members to review the controversial Finance Bill and take a position on it.

Additionally, Gachagua intensifies efforts to isolate Uhuru on Mount Kenya. Mr. Odinga has referred to the Bill as punitive. And today’s PG is expected to adopt a coalition position, setting the stage for a showdown with the Kenya Kwanza faction of the President in Parliament.

Mr. Wandayi stated, “We will also conduct routine business, including the selection of Sabina Chege’s replacement as Deputy Minority Whip.”

He added, “The PG will propose far-reaching resolutions that will have significant effects not only on the nation’s politics but also on its socioeconomic structure.”
