Raila Heads to UK

Ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga departed for the United Kingdom shortly after causing a political uproar in the nation by launching a harsh verbal critique against US Ambassador Meg Whitman. This comes after she asserted that the 2022 presidential election was carried out with transparency.

Before leaving the nation, Raila encountered Chris Coons, the Senator from Delaware. Chris Coons had a meeting with President William Ruto at State House in Nairobi on the 18th of August, Friday.

In a declaration, Raila expressed gratitude towards Senator Coons for his ongoing support and enduring companionship. Raila also assured that they would meet shortly and acknowledged Senator Coons as a genuine patriot.

“Our paths crossed again last night with my friend Senator Chris Coons heading home to the US while I left for the United Kingdom.

“We wished each other safe flights, hoping to see each other again. Always a pleasure Chris,” Raila stated, minutes after leaving the country.

Raila’s visit to the United Kingdom aims to enhance the bond between Kenya and the UK, engage in conversations about shared concerns, and advance Kenya’s objectives in the global arena.

While in the UK, Raila is set to engage with a range of business and political figures, including fellow Kenyan residents of Great Britain.

Yet, it remained uncertain whether Raila will deliver speeches, as there were speculations about the plans of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader to address important individuals.

Kenya and the UK share a deep-rooted historical connection that traces its origins to the colonial period. The UK held dominion over Kenya until the year 1963.

Following their independence, the two nations have upheld strong ties across multiple domains, encompassing trade, investment, security, and collaborative efforts for development.

Kenya holds the position of being the United Kingdom’s primary trade ally in East Africa. Throughout the year 2022, the combined commercial transactions between these nations amounted to Ksh200 billion (£1.1 billion).

Additionally, the United Kingdom holds a significant position as one of the major overseas backers in Kenya, having invested in diverse industries such as telecommunications, financial services, and manufacturing.
