Radio Presenter Josephat Odipo Accused of Plotting to Disinherit Sisters

Josephat Odipo, a prominent Radio Citizen News Presenter, is accused of plotting to use his connections to steal his sisters’ lawful inheritance.

Five sisters have accused him of manipulating the circumstances to gain access to the family’s assets.

Eleven family members, led by five sisters, have been embroiled in a 40-year dispute over the inheritance of a 13-acre property in Butula Sub-County, Busia County, that belonged to their late father.

A document obtained by PoliticalPulseChat on September 29 discloses the sisters’ allegations of gender discrimination orchestrated by Josephat Odipo, causing lengthy delays in determining the fate of the 13-acre estate in Esibembe Village, Mukhweso Sub-Location, Lugulu Location.

“We, the daughters, assert our rightful claim to an equitable share of our father’s land. We base our request on principles of justice and equality, principles that should govern such matters, and in recognition of our father’s legacy, rightfully belonging to his offspring,” reads a portion of the statement released to the media.

Their father, Mr. Kalisto Odipo, died in 1982, leaving behind twelve children from his marriage to Mama Seraphina Apondi. His assets included the 13-acre Lukhari/Marachi estate, which has never been administered.

“Despite the passage of many years, there has been no progress in settling the succession of our father’s assets. This matter is further exacerbated by the clear gender-based discrimination exhibited by our brothers, who are reluctant to involve the female members of the family in the discussions surrounding the estate,” the sisters assert.

Led by their second-born child, Mary Goretti Mulaku, they demand the equitable application of justice, wherein all sisters receive an equal share of their late father’s estate, as specified by the law.

In 2003, descendants of the person who sold the land to their father endeavored to reclaim it, according to the account. With the assistance of attorneys, Mary Goretti fought to preserve the land’s ownership.

“In that dire situation, our sister, Mary Goretti, demonstrated immense resilience and determination by single-handedly engaging legal representation to navigate the complex legal process. It is crucial to highlight that our brothers failed to actively participate or contribute to the resolution of this critical issue, despite being equally invested in the outcome,” the sisters remarked.

Moreover, they accuse their five other brothers, who appear to be under the influential brother’s influence, of disregarding familial obligations and marginalizing them as if they were illegitimate children.

“In addition to the unresolved succession issue, our brothers have failed to contribute to the education and well-being of the nephews and nieces within our family. This neglect of familial responsibilities is both disheartening and unacceptable, and this was clearly seen in the limited support they gave their late brother Dominic during his long illness and subsequent death,” they pointed out.

The sisters emphasize the significance of family support during difficult times and express their desire for a resolution that is equitable for all parties involved.

“We would like to acknowledge that Josephat Odipo was raised outside the home. This has undoubtedly shaped his perspective and attachment to the family property differently from those of us who were raised within the home. Our wish is to come together as a family and resolve these issues and arrive at a decision that is fair to all involved,” demanded the three sisters.
