Rachel Breaks Down How Ruto Solved Extreme Kenyan Disaster During Sermon in Uganda
On Saturday, June 15, First Lady Rachel Ruto shared how the State used the church to address one of Kenya’s most severe droughts.
Speaking in Kampala, Uganda, at a conference by Phaneroo Ministries International, she attributed the recent rains in Kenya to spiritual intervention.
She revealed that God had communicated to her and her team that repentance was needed to resolve the drought crisis.
“In 2022, Kenya experienced its worst drought in four decades, with some areas not receiving rain for over four consecutive seasons,” she informed the attendees in Uganda.
“In one of our prayer meetings, the Lord instructed us to call the nation to repentance and pray for rain.”
Rachel Ruto mentioned that this message was conveyed to the President, who agreed to organize a national day for prayer and repentance.
She also noted that a group of Kenyans, led by her, participated in fasting and prayer in the lead-up to the day of repentance.
The First Lady recounted that President William Ruto led the nation in prayer on February 14, 2023, at Nyayo International Stadium.

“We asked God for rain, and soon after the gathering, light rains were reported in various parts of the country,” she shared.
Rachel Ruto further noted that 30 days after National Prayer Day, the entire country experienced sufficient rainfall.
She mentioned that it has been over a year since the rains started, and they have not ceased.
Describing the drought’s impact, she said that Kenya lost 2.6 million livestock, and 5.4 million people in arid and semi-arid areas suffered from severe malnutrition.
“The price of maize and beans was 60 to 90% higher than the previous year, creating a significant food security challenge,” she added.
Rachel Ruto also praised the President for introducing subsidized fertilizer, which she credited with helping the country achieve food security.
