Prime Suspect in Ex-Treasury Official’s Murder Linked to Troubled Past

The prime suspect in the gruesome murder of ex-Treasury official Tom Osinde. His employee Julius Mugoi, is no stranger to controversy. And, according to his neighbors in South Mugirango, Kisii County, had a troubled past.

Citizen TV visited the 33-year-old’s hometown in the village of Nyakeyo, where close associates disclosed his past.

“Ata aliiba Ksh.100K ya cousin yake na pia alikuwa na kesi ya mauaji akatoroka na kurudi baada ya miaka mitatu na V8,” two villagers said.

Mugoi’s former classmates from Nyakeyo Primary School remembered him all too well.

“Tumesoma naye hapa Nyakeyo but ata akiwa class 7 alikuwa akivuta mkia,” Elishafan Kibagendi, a resident said.

The sudden turn of events that has revealed Mugoi as a murder suspect has demoralized the local populace.

“Serikali ishughulikie huyo kijana…huyo mtu hatutaki ata kumuona hapa kijijini,” another villager appealed.

With the release of the autopsy report, detectives say this will guide their investigations as they attempt to solve the murder mystery.

On Saturday, homicide detectives from the Department of Forensic and crime scene analysis will conduct additional investigations at the residence of Osinde in Ongata Rongai, Nakuru County.

On Friday, a postmortem examination of Osinde’s body revealed that he died from two slash wounds.

Dr. Johansen Oduor, a government pathologist who conducted the autopsy at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, determined that the cuts caused damage to the brain and spine.

On June 22, 2023, Osinde’s body was discovered floating in River Kuja in Kamagambo, on the border of the counties of Migori, Kisii, and Kisii. He was last seen alive at his residence on June 18, 2023, before his mysterious disappearance and presumed murder.

It is anticipated that his body will be transferred from Kisii to a morgue in Nakuru.
