Presidential Bromance- Ruto And Ethiopia’s Abiy Display Rare ‘Bestie’ Connection

President William Ruto and Ethiopian leader Abiy Ahmed have showcased a unique camaraderie seldom seen among African Heads of State.

Arriving in Kenya on a rainy Tuesday, the Ethiopian leader was captured in a photo attempting to shake hands with Ruto. Despite the downpour, both leaders looked cheerful, sporting broad smiles as they extended their arms towards each other.

One doesn’t require expertise in body language to assess the bond between the two leaders, as they openly displayed their evident fondness for each other without any attempt to conceal it.

In a notable departure from the usual practice, Ruto personally welcomed Abiy, a departure from the customary protocol where senior government officials are typically assigned to greet distinguished guests at the airport.

While departing from the airport lounge towards the State House, the strong bond between the two individuals was apparent. They exhibited a noticeable bromance, engrossed in a profound conversation, sharing identical cheerful smiles.

The next day, the pair emerged clad in coordinated kaunda suits, embarking on separate commitments throughout the nation.

The remarkable camaraderie between the pair has been praised by various influential figures, with Dennis Itumbi showcasing their bond on his Instagram. He posted a photo collage capturing their interactions from their first encounters in 2022 to a joyful moment in 2023 when they were seen cheerfully sharing an umbrella.

The online community also took note of the remarkable camaraderie, and numerous individuals shared noteworthy comments about the entire Presidential event.

BBC journalist Waihiga Mwaura noticed the warmth, saying, “Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed begins his state visit to Kenya. He was, in a rare gesture, received at the airport by his host President William Ruto. Plenty of talking points expected from the press briefing on Wednesday morning…”

“They look genuinely happy at each other. If only African leaders would prioritize the welfare of their citizens, everyone would be this happy,” another X user noted.

On her part, Karen Mungai said, “I’ve never seen Ruto so animated to meet anyone. Not even President Biden. Here, he looks so at home, so at peace, he’s literally met his long-lost homeboy. Only the walls can tell what the two were conversing about.”

During the initial years of the Jubilee administration, Kenyans couldn’t help but observe the unmistakable close friendship between current President Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

At a certain juncture in the process of selecting their cabinet members, the pair donned identical red ties and synchronized the act of rolling up their shirt sleeves.
