President William Ruto Invites Kenyan Youth to Direct Dialogue on X (Twitter) Space This Thursday or Friday
President William Ruto has challenged Kenyan youth to engage directly with him via X (Twitter) Space on either Thursday, July 4 or Friday, July 5. This initiative comes in response to widespread criticism of his government’s failure to effectively communicate with young people.
In a candid interview with digital media at State House, Nairobi, President Ruto acknowledged his administration’s shortcomings in connecting with the youth.
This admission follows growing discontent online, particularly among Gen Z, who have called for dialogue with the government through X Space.
Facing intense pressure, especially from young Kenyans demanding his resignation, President Ruto is now aiming to bridge the communication gap with the youth, a demographic he’s been accused of neglecting.
“I understand that the youth are expressing a preference for direct engagement rather than multisectoral forums. If they want me to use X to engage with them, I’m willing to do so,” Ruto stated in a televised interview.
Addressing the digital media team, he added, “Let me know who will organize the X Space. I am available either Thursday or Friday to discuss issues like taxation, unemployment, and corruption.”

X Space has become a hub for youth activism, where they voice grievances and demand accountability from leaders. President Ruto’s invitation aims to rebuild credibility amid protests and calls for his resignation.
Recent weeks have seen protests against the controversial Finance Bill 2024, prompting Ruto to withdraw it and announce reforms within the executive, including abolishing the offices of the First Lady and Second Lady.
“We have many young leaders from various institutions. They should step up and lead this dialogue,” Ruto encouraged.
This direct engagement with youth marks a significant shift in Ruto’s governance approach, showing a newfound awareness of the need to address youth concerns inclusively.
“I have young people around me, and I understand their concerns,” he acknowledged, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive dialogue.
Ruto’s administration has faced scrutiny following violent protests against the Finance Bill, resulting in over Ksh2.4 billion in property damage and more than 20 deaths. He attributed the destruction to criminal elements exploiting the protests to attack critical government infrastructure, including Parliament.
