President Ruto’s UAE Visit: Key Highlights

President William Ruto has left Kenya for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit.

According to a statement from State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Monday, January 13, Ruto will deliver a speech during the summit’s opening session, where he will highlight Kenya’s role in renewable energy, with a focus on geothermal power.

The summit’s theme, “Exploring the Global Energy Transition,” will provide a platform for Ruto to showcase Kenya’s leadership in this area and discuss opportunities for global partnerships to tackle energy challenges and promote green growth.

Besides attending the summit, Ruto will hold discussions with global leaders, including UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

These talks will focus on boosting cooperation in energy, trade, investment, and technology, all vital parts of Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

The visit is also expected to result in a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Kenya and the UAE, aimed at simplifying export processes and attracting more UAE investments in various sectors of Kenya’s economy.

The UAE is Kenya’s sixth-largest export destination, particularly for tea, meat products, fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The new agreement is set to improve market access and stimulate further investment.

Ruto’s trip follows his recent departure for Uganda, where he attended the African Union’s Extraordinary Summit on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
