President Ruto’s Closed-Door Meeting with RMS Chairman SK Macharia Raises Eyebrows
On Tuesday, June 27, President William Ruto met privately with Royal Media Services (RMS) chairman Samuel Kamau Macharia at State House in Nairobi.
According to sources close to the presidency, Ruto permitted only SK Macharia, a close confidant of Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga, to attend the meeting.
Macharia was accused of opposing Ruto during the intensified campaigns preceding the 2022 General Election, so the President’s allies were astonished by their closely guarded meeting.
“I was not privy to the discussions, but SK Macharia’s meeting with the President was a private matter between them. In any case, there are numerous visitors to State House,” the source stated.
Soon after the meeting, a photo of SK Macharia and Emmanuel Talam, the Press Secretary of the Presidential Communication Service (PCS), went viral on the Internet, sparking a debate.

Talam confirmed to GossipA2Z that he met SK at State House, adding that he took a photo with the media mogul out of love and admiration for him.
Talam explained that SK Macharia provided him with his first position as a journalist at Royal Media Services.
SK Macharia stated, “I only took a photo with him because I knew him from my days at Roya Media Services, where I began my career.”
Talam added that Macharia is a formidable force in the media, business, and political spheres.
In the run-up to the Presidential Election on August 9, 2022, Macharia supported the Azimio La Umoja candidate Raila Odinga.
Nevertheless, Macharia clarified that his media outlets were nonpartisan and would not engage in partisan politics.
“As a responsible and free citizen, I am exercising my right under the Constitution to participate in politics.
SK Macharia stated on Friday, December 10 at the Azimio La Umoja National Convention, “My political views and preferences are entirely separate from the management of my businesses by impartial and competent professionals.”
