President Ruto Unveils Plans for New Police Uniforms, Vehicles, and Housing to Boost Officer Morale and Efficiency

President William Ruto revealed on Friday, December 13, that new police uniforms would be rolled out in the coming weeks. This initiative is part of the broader set of changes Ruto promised to the country’s 100,000 police officers.

While launching the National Police and State Department of Correctional Services Strategic Plans for 2023-2027, the President stated that he would soon meet with police leadership to finalize the dates for introducing the new uniforms.

President Ruto emphasized that the decision to introduce the new uniforms was meant to motivate the police officers and boost their morale in their duties.

โ€œAs I have mentioned earlier, we will consult with the men and women in uniform to ensure the uniforms are suitable. The plan is in place, and the rollout is the next step,โ€ Ruto remarked.

โ€œWe are committed to providing uniforms that inspire our police officers to perform their duties with dedication and pride. This is an undertaking we will fulfill,โ€ he added.

The President also highlighted the government’s efforts to provide more vehicles to support police operations, noting that the procurement of 1,000 additional vehicles was nearly complete.

Ruto explained that the first batch of 1,000 vehicles would be distributed to police stations across the country by early next year, with the remaining 2,000 vehicles set to be delivered later in the year.

To address the housing issues faced by police officers, President Ruto disclosed that 17,000 housing units were nearly finished and would soon be allocated to officers.

โ€œWe are focused on ensuring that police officers, who play a vital role in safeguarding our nation, work in an environment conducive to performing their duties effectively,โ€ Ruto affirmed.

Ruto also shared that the housing units would be made available to officers from the National Youth Service (NYS), certain military personnel, and prison officers.

Additionally, the President announced plans to digitize the police Occurrence Book (OB) system, aiming to streamline case tracking and prevent any tampering with records.

โ€œWe will collaborate on this, and I trust the leadership at Vigilance House and in my office to work toward the successful implementation of this initiative,โ€ the President concluded.
