President Ruto Unveils ‘Kazi Majuu’ via Gava Mkononi: Safeguarding Kenyans Abroad

President William Ruto launched the Kazi Majuu platform, which can be accessed via the Gava Mkononi app, to protect Kenyans from being defrauded by fraudulent agents offering jobs abroad.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua emphasized on Friday, June 30 during the launch of the app (an application version of the eCitizen website) at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) that the platform will connect job seekers and prospective employers in the diaspora.

He added that the platform will eliminate the middleman and prevent credulous job seekers from losing money or even their lives.

This was in response to a persistent problem in which unscrupulous agents exploited Kenyans by sending them to work in extremely unfavorable conditions, particularly in the Gulf states.

In addition to assisting Kenyans in finding legitimate jobs abroad, this application will monitor and facilitate their remittances.

“We will post numerous opportunities from around the globe. The application will connect you to Kenyan and international agents.”However, you must also pass a skills evaluation test and obtain immigration clearance,” Mutua explained to Ruto.

The Ministry intends to deploy agents with a proactive strategy to scour the globe for appealing employment opportunities for Kenyans.

This initiative aims to be fully operational by December 2023, coinciding with the completion of the platform and several labor agreements.

“We seek bilateral labor agreements with as many nations as possible. Mutua assured Kenyans of the app’s success by stating, “We have secured quite a few.”

“Since we are competing with skilled workers from other nations, we are also conducting some training and working to ensure that Kenyans receive the best deal possible through these agreements,” the CS explained.

Florence Bore, minister of labor, elaborated further on the government’s efforts to conclude agreements with Gulf states regarding the recruitment of domestic workers.

She stated that the Kazi Majuu App consolidated the services offered by various government agencies.

Ruto urged the two CSs to develop a comprehensive framework to ensure that both skilled and semi-skilled workers will benefit from the agreements.

Through various partnerships, the government aims to create a substantial number of employment opportunities and employ 250,000 individuals.
