President Ruto Criticizes MP Gathoni Wamuchomba for Voting Against Finance Bill

Saturday, President William Ruto criticized Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba for her recent vote against the Finance Bill 2023 in the National Assembly’s second reading.

Without naming names, the President stated that it was insincere for certain leaders to oppose the Finance Bill, particularly the Housing Levy with its goal of constructing 200,000 new homes annually, “because they are privileged.”

“These citizens assisted you in obtaining a job, but you do not wish to contribute a portion of your salary to the housing project. All opposition MPs, including those who voted against the Bill, are insincere. “Let’s put an end to the petty politics of the few who oppose the move,” said President Ruto.

He added, “As a government, we must have a plan for the people to obtain homes and good jobs.”

The President was in Githunguri to attend the field day and expo hosted by the Githunguri Dairy Cooperative Society.

Ms. Wamuchomba vowed not to be intimidated by those in power and to work for the electorate when she spoke at the meeting.

Ms. Wamuchomba said, “I sincerely appreciate the support and prayers, and I pledge to carry out my duties as an MP without fear.”

Ms. Wamuchomba was a critic of the Finance Bill that breezed through the National Assembly’s second reading.

She had argued that the bill was oppressive and did not take ordinary mwananchi into account.

    Bill vote

Ms. Wamuchomba argues that the Finance Bill is punitive, oppressive, and contrary to President Ruto’s campaign platform.

During the debate on the bill, Ms. Wamuchomba informed Moses Wetang’ula, the Speaker of the National Assembly, that voters in her constituency could no longer afford a 2kg packet of maize flour.

“I rise to oppose the Bill for the good of the Kenyan peopleโ€ฆ the constituents I represent in Githunguri cannot afford a single daily meal.” “Because of the high cost of living, my constituents cannot afford unga,” she stated on the House floor.

The Githunguri representative added that it is the responsibility of representatives to safeguard the electorate from exploitation.

Recently, Nandi senator Samson Cherargei disclosed that Kenya Kwanza legislators who voted against the budget bill would face disciplinary action.
