Positive Dialogue Progress: Satisfactory Talks
The National Dialogue Committee has thus far deemed the ongoing discussions at Bomas of Kenya to be productive.
The Kenya Kwanza and Azimio leadership expressed satisfaction with the progress of Monday’s third day of negotiations.
Except for Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Azimio team, and Aaron Cheruiyot of Kenya Kwanza, all members of the committee were present at the meeting.
Opiyo Wandayi, leader of the National Assembly’s minority caucus, stated, “The two will be joining us at future meetings.”
After being approved by the National Assembly, the Motion to legally establish the committee has been forwarded to the Senate, according to Wandayi.
“The Senate will deliberate the Motion on Tuesday of the following week with the intent of adopting it,” he said.
Wandayi added that the technical teams will meet daily until Thursday for deliberations.
“They will frame the issues for discussion until Thursday, after which they will join us on Friday,” he added.
Kimani Ichung’wah, leader of the majority in the National Assembly, stated that since the Senate is on recess, the Speaker will call a special session to consider the motion.

“We are required to complete our assignment within 60 days. “It should be noted that the 60-day clock will start ticking once the Senate passes the motion,” he said.
Ichung’wah guaranteed that the committee will not be distracted by political remarks.
“What is being said elsewhere will not dictate our conversation. We will disregard all clamor, he explained.
Last week, the technical teams from both parties were tasked with drafting the agenda items for the committee’s consideration.
The teams were briefed on the expectations of their respective factions and tasked with coordinating the two sides’ proposals.
In attendance were Cecil Mbarire, the governor of Embu, Hassan Omar, and Catherine Wambilianga. The meeting was attended by Eugene Wamalwa, Okon’go Omogeni, and Amina Mnyazi of Azimio.
The committee is anticipated to recommend constitutionally compliant and institutionally sound legal and policy reforms on issues affecting Kenyans.
