Popular anti-Ruto taxes protester Shad Khalif goes missing after abduction(Video)
One outspoken critic of the proposed taxes has gone missing after being abducted from a shopping center in South B, Nairobi.
The abduction, which occurred Sunday evening, is part of a recent trend targeting those seen as opponents of the Finance Bill 2024.
Shad Khalif’s family and friends reported him missing following his abduction by unidentified individuals who had been following him.
Witnesses observed a black double-cab pickup and a white Toyota Prado trailing Shad Khalif, a well-known social media figure, before he was forcibly taken in South B, Nairobi, by men believed to be plainclothes detectives due to his active role in the protests.
Khalif has been an outspoken critic of the bill.
He has participated in interviews detailing his involvement and that of his friends in the movement.
He emphasized that there is no financial backer or leader behind the protests, asserting that the movement is grassroots.
Police have not responded to inquiries about the incident.
Khalif’s abduction occurred just hours after Dr. Austin Omondi, also involved in the protests, was abducted and later released.
Dr. Omondi was freed at the Parklands police station on Sunday evening following intense online protests.
