“Polisi Alisema Wacha Akufe”- Rex Masai’s Mother Speaks After Police Shooting

Rex Masai’s mother narrated the last events of her son before the shooting incident that was captured on video on Thursday, June 20.

Speaking to the press, Gillian Munyao, revealed that the 29-year-old was from work and was in the company of his friend.

She detailed that the duo was in town to run some errands. She revealed that the son was standing near Nairobi Archives when a teargas canister was thrown near the area.

Owing to the choking fumes, they decided to run and the police were also chasing after them.

In the process, a police officer fired a shot and hit him on his left thigh causing him to fall.

“The friend says that they were standing near archives and a teargas canister was launched in their direction. However, when they were running he was shot.

“When the police left, the friend went to check on him. They even called the police to help them when the officer stated that they should leave him to die there,” she narrated.

On the other hand, she detailed that she received information about the son’s shooting some minutes past 7 pm.

She added that she was not able to see his son while still alive as she was informed of his death when she got to town.

“I was called around 7 pm and I was informed that he had been shot in the left leg and that he was taken to a clinic near Archives.

“When I arrived in Town, I was told that he was no more,” the distraught mother stated.

She also called on the government to conduct investigations into the incident and serve justice for their firstborn son.

“I want to ask the government for justice for the person who killed my son,” she added.

The police officer who allegedly fired the shot is yet to be arrested. However, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into the incident amid a growing public uproar.
