Police Raid Kitengela, Arrest 20 Boda Riders for Assault of Female Driver

On Friday evening, a police raid resulted in the arrest of 20 motorcycle taxi riders in Kitengela who were accused of pelting stones at a female driver.

On Saturday morning, PoliticalPulseChat obtained a police report revealing that the Kitengela Officer Commanding Police Station took the lead in conducting the operation.

Personnel from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) provided support to the OCS as a backup.

“The above operation was conducted today January 19, 2024, by the OCS Kitengela, DCI Personnel and a team of officers, in response to an incident that occurred within Kitengela township on January 18, 2024, reported vide OB 98/18/01/2024,” read the report in part.

“Twenty persons have been arrested and twenty-six motorbikes detained at the police station.”

As per the police statement, the individuals are set to face charges related to the crime of intentionally damaging property and committing assault.

On Thursday, a team of law enforcement officers faced off with boda boda riders who had initiated an altercation with a female driver and her co-driver, alleging that she had caused a series of injuries.

A later police statement revealed that the car collided with a motorcycle traveling from Athiriver to Kitengela, which had a passenger seated behind the rider. The passenger suffered injuries to their lower right leg, left forehead, and the back of their head.

“The driver then sped off towards Namanga general direction through the Arusha Service Lane and hit a pedestrian aged 32 years injuring him on the left leg below the knee and his son aged 4 years who complained of chest pains,” read the report in part.

Subsequently, the driver allegedly collided with another motorcycle as they attempted to escape on Old Namanga Road. The passenger on the second motorcycle, who was pregnant, suffered an injury to her left leg and sustained bruises on both hands.
