Police Officer, Local DJ To Be Charged With Murder Of Meru Blogger ‘Sniper’
A murder charge is impending for several suspects, including a police officer and a DJ, in connection with the brutal slaying of blogger Daniel Muthiani, also known as Sniper, in Meru County.
On Saturday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) asserted that their participation, along with others, in the blogger’s murder had been conclusively established through forensic evidence, according to a released statement.
“Four other suspects including a police officer and a local DJ whose involvement in the heinous murder was forensically proven from the point of abduction in Meru to Mutonga River where the deceased’s body was recovered are all set to be arraigned for murder,” said the DCI.
“While the High Court in Kiambu has already given directions for the mental assessment of Vincent Muriithi and Kenneth Murangiri Guantai (AP officer) ahead of their plea taking on January 29, 2024, the remaining three suspects (Boniface Kithinji Njihia alias DJ Kaboom, Brian Mwenda alias Brayo and Christus Manyara Kiambi) who are already in police custody after custodial orders were granted by the Kibera Chief Magistrate court will be arraigned on the same day.”

The DCI also mentioned that investigations are currently underway, and additional arrests are anticipated in the future.
The sniper went missing on December 2, 2023, and his remains were found a fortnight afterward.
Five suspects would later be arrested in connection to the killing, including; Kenneth Mutua Gatiri alias Gasigi, Fredrick Muruiki Kiugi alias Pope, Franklin Kimathi alias Dudu Ras, Timothy Kinoti alias Timo, and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali.
On January 4, 2024, homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended them in Meru town, after which they were officially recorded and placed in different police stations located in Nairobi and Kiambu.
An autopsy performed on the deceased’s body at Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary indicated that the cause of death was strangulation.
The examination, carried out by Government pathologist Johansen Oduor, revealed that Sniper displayed indications of oxygen deprivation, with observable marks on his neck.
He also had fractured ribs and showed injuries.
