Police Officer Injured After Mobile Phone Explodes in His Pocket
In a troubling incident that occurred on Thursday morning, a police officer stationed in Mathioya, Murang’a County, suffered injuries after his mobile phone burst into flames while he was en route to Kinangop, Nyandarua County.
According to a detailed report obtained by Gossipa2z.com, Police Constable Simon Chepkirwok was part of a group of four officers who were traveling from Mathioya to Kinangop on official duty.
The journey began at approximately 9:53 a.m. Unfortunately, before they could reach their destination, a serious malfunction occurred with Chepkirwok’s mobile phone.
The device, which was a Techno BF1 model, was located in his left front trouser pocket. Without any prior warning, the phone suddenly ignited, causing a burst of flames that resulted in burns to Chepkirwok’s left thigh.
The immediate consequences of this malfunction were severe. The officer experienced significant discomfort and pain due to the burns.
Prompt action was taken to address his medical needs—Chepkirwok was swiftly transported to Kenol Hospital.

At the hospital, he received the necessary medical treatment to address the burns he sustained.
Fortunately, after undergoing treatment, Chepkirwok was discharged a few hours later, with his condition reported to be stable.
The official police report, as outlined by Corporal John Anyimo, includes detailed accounts from Constables Simon Chepkirwok, Wilson Nyaga, and Cornelius Kemboi, all of whom are assigned to the DCI Mathioya.
The report highlights the sequence of events, emphasizing that the mobile phone, which was in Chepkirwok’s trouser pocket, unexpectedly caught fire.

The damaged mobile phone has been retrieved and is now under examination.
