Police Officer Arrested in Connection to Shooting Outside Kiambu Nightclub: US Embassy Employee Killed

A police officer is one of three individuals arrested in connection to the shooting incident that resulted in the death of a US embassy employee outside a popular nightclub in Kiambu.

The victim, 36-year-old Anthony Njomo, who worked as an electrician at the US embassy, was killed in the shooting incident on Saturday.

Kiambu County Commander Michael Muchiri confirmed the arrests and stated that the firearm used in the incident has been recovered.

“Today, we apprehended a third suspect who is an active police officer, and we have also confiscated the gun believed to have been used to kill the young man,” Muchiri said.

He added that homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters have taken over the case.

“Two suspects have been brought to court, where the investigators requested more time to conclude the murder investigation. The third suspect will also be presented in court,” he stated.

A Kiambu court granted investigators 10 days to complete their inquiries.

Investigating officer Peter Kingawi had initially requested 20 days for the investigation.

Njomo was reportedly struck by a stray bullet while he was speaking on the phone across the road from the popular Kiambu nightclub.

A dispute reportedly occurred outside the nightclub, leading to a gunshot being fired, causing people involved in the scuffle to flee.

David Njomo, the spokesperson for the deceased’s family, expressed their devastation over his death, describing it as tragic since he was an innocent bystander when he was hit by the bullet.

“We reviewed CCTV footage from outside the club, which shows our relative speaking on the phone a few meters away. Suddenly, a fight broke out, and a man holding a gun was seen firing. The next moment, our relative is seen falling,” he explained.

He emphasized that the family seeks justice, as the shooter is visible in the footage.

“We urge the police to leave no stone unturned. We want justice for our relative, as he was innocent,” he said.

He described Njomo as a cheerful, friendly, and fun-loving person who had no enemies.

Njomo leaves behind a pregnant wife and a two-and-a-half-year-old son.

He added that the family has begun making burial arrangements while the police continue their investigation.
