Police Launch Manhunt After Wanted KCSE Students Escape School

Several candidates who destroyed property at Kimelok Secondary School in Narok County returned to the institution on Friday after police officers launched a manhunt for them.

Reports indicated that the students became unruly after the school principal caught them with mobile phones on Thursday night.

The principal accused the students of communicating with anonymous individuals who promised them examination leakages.

Upon confiscation of the gadgets, the candidates went on a rampage, destroying the school’s staffroom and dormitories at night before escaping.

Following the incident, the teachers filed a report with Narok police, who began tracking the students.

In a surprise turn of events, the students resumed to the school on Friday, ready to sit their exams. At the time of publishing this article, the police had not taken any action on the candidates.

The incident comes in the wake of the ongoing KCSE examinations, with Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, stating that the national examinations have been largely successful, except for a few cases of malpractice.

According to Machogu, 46 candidates have been directly implicated in exam cheating thus far, alongside three cases of collision, two impersonations, and nine center managers, including principals manning the schools.

On Tuesday, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) suspended Nyambaria High School Principal Charles Onyari on accusations of exam irregularity.

The school was among the institutions that topped the 2022 KCSE exams with a 10.89 mean score.

Police based in Nyamira launched investigations to probe Onyari’s conduct during the examination period.
