Police Arrest 2 Suspects Over Athlete Benjamin Kiplagat’s Murder
Eldoret law enforcement has detained two individuals suspected to be involved in the killing of Kenyan-born runner Benjamin Kiplagat.
As per Stephen Okal, who serves as the Police Commander of Moiben Sub-County, one of the individuals was apprehended in Uasin Gishu County, while the other was located in Trans Nzoia County.
A knife, believed to be the weapon used in the murder, was found in the possession of one of the suspects.
He verified that the police used CCTV footage on the evening of the homicide to apprehend the suspects.
The pair of suspects are scheduled for a court appearance next Tuesday, where they will confront accusations related to the homicide of Kiplagat.
The authorities will aim to investigate the motive behind the murder of the athlete, known for his exceptional performance in the men’s 3,000 meters Steeplechase, in order to understand the reasons behind the crime.

Kiplagat was discovered deceased in the early hours of Sunday morning inside a black Toyota Hilux as he was heading home. Authorities clarified that individuals on a motorcycle intercepted the athlete’s route.
Investigators think that the individuals went on to carry out the atrocious offense and then escaped from the location.
Okal observed that the two individuals have participated in several unlawful activities lately.
He verified that law enforcement was resolute in deciphering the reason behind the occurrence and apprehending those responsible.
The authorities reported that the athlete regularly attended nighttime gatherings with other athletes in Elgeyo Marakwet before returning home. Law enforcement suspects that the individuals responsible for the crime monitored Kiplagat’s usual schedule before carrying out their actions.
After the event, World Athletics released a statement acknowledging the loss of a highly accomplished athlete from East Africa within the sports industry.
