The Homa Bay County Government has finished building a new two-bedroom house for the parents of the late Albert Ojwang, just a day before he was laid to rest.
Governor Gladys Wanga shared the news on Thursday morning, saying Albert’s wish to build a better home for his parents had come true, even though he was no longer around to see it happen.
The newly built house sits next to Mzee Meshack Ojwang’s older home. It features a beige exterior with white highlights and a staircase leading to the main door, giving it a fresh and bright appearance.

Inside, visitors are welcomed by a spacious and stylish living room. The walls are painted cream, and the room is furnished with comfortable seats and vibrant curtains that add colour and warmth.
The home has two bedrooms, a living room, bathroom, toilet, and a kitchen with a backdoor. It will now be the permanent residence of Albert Ojwang’s father and mother.

While officially handing over the house, Governor Wanga called for justice for Albert, who died in police custody earlier this month after being arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

“As we bring Albert home for burial today, we also honour his dream. He had planned to build a new house for his parents, and today, that dream is a reality. Justice must be served,” Governor Wanga said.
Before the new house was built, Meshack Ojwang and his wife lived in a semi-permanent structure, always hoping their son would one day build them a better home.
This project comes just two weeks after Governor Wanga visited the grieving family in Kokwanyo village, Kabondo Kasipul, and promised to build them a modern two-bedroom house. During her visit on June 16, she also delivered Ksh2 million in financial support from President William Ruto.
Governor Wanga also committed to helping the family buy a plot in Homa Bay town, where rental houses could be built to create a steady source of income for Ojwang’s parents.
