Pastor Ng’ang’a’s Shocking Tale: Simswap Scam Swallows Ksh 630K in Church Offerings
Pastor James Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism Centre has revealed the tactics of scammers who employ the sim swap technique to scam unsuspecting Kenyans. He urges people to remain vigilant to prevent falling victim to such schemes.
Addressing his followers, the television evangelist recounted the incident where scammers drained funds from his SIM cards associated with various church registrations to gather donations.
Ng’ang’a reported that in the initial occurrence, an unidentified individual went to a telecommunications company’s regional customer service center in Nakuru. There, they exchanged the original SIM card registered to James Ng’ang’a and took out more than Ksh200,000.
“I was contacted by the Jerusalem church and they informed me that the phone was not working, so I offered to visit the service provider’s office and sort the issue, however, the one registered for this church stopped working as well,” he stated.
After reaching out to customer support, the pastor was told that the numbers for the two registered lines had been exchanged by someone at the same shop in Nakuru within two days.
Pastor Ng’ang’a also criticized the attendant, pointing out that the primary reason for sim swap fraud in such cases was the failure to verify National Identification (IDs) cards.

On February 14, Wednesday, the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended two individuals believed to be associated with a gang that has been causing fear among residents of Busia, Kericho, and Nakuru counties. This action is part of an ongoing operation aimed at dismantling the criminal syndicate, known for engaging in electronic fraud.
The pair has been apprehended in connection with a violent robbery reported at Litein Police Station on December 29, 2023. Following the completion of investigations, they are scheduled to appear in Kericho Law Courts for arraignment.
The initiation of the operation by DCI followed a series of complaints from Kenyan individuals regarding sim swap incidents. It is suspected that the offenses were carried out by members of a recognized criminal gang.
