Passport Brokers Nabbed: Nyayo House Arrests
Directorate of Criminal Investigation – Immigration agents have apprehended four suspects in what appears to be a crackdown on corrupt immigration officials in Kenya.
According to a Nyayo House source, the suspects apprehended include Josphat Khamandi Manyonyi, Howard Tsimbagi alias Button, Ahmed Ibrahim Sheikh, and Hassan Mohamed Hosman.
Investigations into Nyayo House’s murky activities have revealed that Immigrations employees have solicited bribes for eons, prompting outrage and tarnishing the institution’s reputation.
Following their arrests on Friday, August 25, the suspects were detained at the Central Police station pending their arraignment for the crimes of preparation to perpetrate a felony and conspiracy to defraud members of the public.

The arrests follow the announcement of a crackdown by Ministry of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, who labeled the Nyayo residence a “crime scene” and vowed to clean it up permanently.
“I will clean Nyayo house once and for all,” said CS Kithure to the committee. “We will seal off Nyayo house and label it a crime scene.” What do Kenyans do at 6 AM? Not everything will proceed as usual. “Nyayo house must be cleaned up,” CS Kindiki told the National Assembly.
Some of Kenya’s ongoing problems, such as insecurity and terrorism, can be traced back to corruption at Nyayo House, according to the CS.
The Department of Immigration and Citizen Services processes approximately 5,000 passports per day. According to the CS, the passport backlog — a source of frustration for most Kenyans — is presently 58,000.
He stated that plans are underway to issue passports in seven days and that the issuance time will be reduced to three days in the future and to twenty-four hours in an emergency.
