Parents & Students Unable to Access KCSE Results as KNEC Website Crashes

Parents and students were left anxious after being unable to access the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results through the Kenya National Examinations (KNEC) portal.ย

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Monday, January 8, announced that the results would only be accessible through the KNEC portal, deviating from the norm in previous years when the results were released via SMS.

Candidates and parents were advised to check the results by logging into the results.knec.ac.ke platform.

Hours after CS Machoguโ€™s announcement, no school had received their exam results as the website crashed.

“We have engaged engineers to make sure the system works perfectly unlike the other time we witnessed issues with the SMS code,” the CS stated.ย

He explained that students would no longer receive their results through SMS on their phones.

Machogu explained that this was informed by 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results where candidates received wrong results.

Parents and headteachers speaking to the press complained that they were in the dark about how the students performed.

โ€œWe are very anxious, some of the students are on the verge of collapsing,โ€ one of the headteachers stated.

He added that the government through the Ministry of Education should consider the return of the SMS code.

โ€œThe method was more faster and reliable,โ€ the headteacher begged CS Machogu.

Over 900,000 candidates are waiting to access their results through the KNEC portal.ย
