Outrage as Activist Lawyer Morara Kebaso Arrested in Mysterious Raid, Sparks #FreeMorara Movement
Lawyer-turned-activist Morara Kebaso was arrested Monday after police officers raided his main office in Kahawa Sukari, Nairobi.
Kebaso’s lawyer, who pursued the police car to the Nairobi Regional Headquarters, reported that the legal team was denied access to the premises.
“They have restricted access, following strict instructions from higher authorities not to allow anyone, including lawyers, media personnel, or others, to see Morara,” the lawyer said to the press.
“The question is, what kind of police force do we have here? They have no respect for the Constitution or the rule of law. Corruption runs deep, from the Minister of Interior to the officers detaining Morara. We must condemn this strongly.”
The reason behind his arrest remains unclear.
In response, many Kenyans took to social media, calling the incident an abduction. A witness claimed that a Subaru Forester was involved in the incident.
In one of the videos shared online, the Subaru Forester was seen traveling along the Thika Superhighway following the arrest.

Kebaso had spent most of the weekend in Bomet and Kericho counties, conducting civic education rallies and highlighting stalled government projects in the President’s stronghold.
Just an hour before his arrest, Kebaso posted on X (formerly Twitter) denouncing the brutal abduction and torture of Mombasa-based blogger Bruce John.
In the bold video, Kebaso detailed Bruce’s ordeal, which involved being abducted by 20 individuals under the guise of making him apologize to the Mombasa Governor. Instead, Bruce was tortured, sodomized, and never taken to the Governor as he was led to believe.
Kebaso demanded that Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja arrest the Governor to face charges of being an accessory and conspirator in the crime.
“The governor must be investigated and arrested. If it is not done, I am ready to suspend all activities for a nationwide demonstration,” Kebaso’s last post on X stated.
As the situation unfolds, support for Kebaso continues to grow on social media, with #FreeMorara trending widely.
