Oscar Sudi Responds to Gachagua’s Claims of Political Meddling

On Sunday, Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi seemingly addressed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allegations that certain Rift Valley leaders are behind his purported fallout with President William Ruto.

Speaking at a church event, Sudi, a staunch supporter of Ruto, urged leaders to avoid divisive and tribal politics whileย alsoย emphasizing the importance of mutual respect.

Sudi specifically mentioned a Saturday meeting in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County, where Gachagua and his allies criticized leaders close to the president for allegedly creating tensions between him and Ruto.

A frustrated Gachagua harshly criticized these leaders, revealing that Ruto’s allies are already holding meetings in the Mt. Kenya region to plan for the 2032 succession, which he believes undermines him.

“The issue lies with a few leaders from this region who are close to the President and are stirring up politics in our area, misleading people to start planning for 2032,” Gachagua stated.

โ€œThe few people here wamefura wamekuwa na kiburi nyingi, wanafikiria ati sasa wamefika wanaweza kuja huko eti wapange viongozi wa mlima, ata sisi hatutakuja kuwapangia siasa yenu, lazima tuheshimiane,โ€ he added.

โ€œMsijaribu kutupangia siasa ya mlima Kenya na uongozi wa mlima Kenya. Pangeni siasa zenu na uongozi wenu. Siku William Ruto atastaafu after 10 years, hatutaingililia vile mnataka kupanga, mtajipangia wenyewe. Siasa ya huko kwetu hamuwezani nayo, ni ngumu sana,โ€ Gachagua noted.

Gachagua also advised the leaders to focus on their constituencies, prompting a response from Sudi.

“You cannot control where I go. If we all stayed in our respective constituencies then we could not be in government. We had to fly all over the country to ask Kenyans to elect this government. I am not someone you can threaten. I have been threatened enough and this does not move me,” Sudi responded.

Sudi stated he would continue organizing fundraisers for churches, a practice he inherited from Ruto when he was deputy president.

“I adopted this from Ruto. He passed it on to me as he now focuses on national issues. So, I will continue this work across the country,” Sudi explained.

This recent exchange follows reports of a rift between President Ruto and DP Gachagua, particularly after Gachagua’s absence from key state functions for a week, resurfacing in Nyeri where his allies complained of his mistreatment.

Led by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, these leaders warned that they would not tolerate any mistreatment of Gachagua, drawing parallels to Ruto’s experiences as deputy president.
