Orengo’s Warning to Ruto: Signatures Hold Power
President William Ruto has been warned by Siaya leaders not to disregard the ongoing collection of signatures from citizens expressing discontent with his government.
The leaders, led by Governor James Orengo of Siaya and National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, stated that the constitution made it plain that citizens were sovereign and could effect change in Kenya through parliamentary or extra-parliamentary means.
They were speaking on the grounds of the Sidindi primary school in the Ugunja constituency on Sunday during a fund-raising campaign for 40 women’s groups in the area.
Orengo stated that numerous methods for changing the government had been utilized in Kenya and throughout the globe.
“We had done this in the past when parliament proved to be acting against the will of the people,” said the governor, adding that the country had now reached a point where the opposition must appeal to the people to exercise their sovereignty and bring about change.

The signature collection that began last week will result in their removal from office, he said, challenging President William Ruto and his deputy to confront reality.
Orengo and Wandayi accused vice president Rigathi Gachagua of repeatedly directing personal attacks at Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga and admonishing him to cease.
National Assembly Minority Leader and Ugunja lawmaker Opiyo Wandayi admonished Kenya Kwanza leaders to cease interfering with opposition activities, such as signature gatherings.
“It is none of your business if Kenyans decide to sign a petition expressing their lack of confidence in your leadership,” Wandayi stated.
Similarly, Wandayi stated that President Ruto owed an apology to the Nyanza region for the shooting of protesting youths on Sabasaba Day.
He stated that it was unacceptable for law enforcement officers to murder innocent civilians exercising their right to picket under the Constitution.
