Oduol Urges Truce with Orengo, Declares No Animosity

A day after rowdy youths stormed his office, the Deputy Governor of Siaya, William Oduol, called for a ceasefire with his supervisor, James Orengo.

The unruly adolescents attempted to assault the deputy governor on Thursday after he returned to his office following the failure of his impeachment.

Oduol pleaded for peace on Friday, stating that he had no personal grudges against anyone, including his employer.

“It is regrettable and unfortunate that the hired youths attempted to prevent me from performing my constitutional duties in my office,” Oduol told GossipA2Z.

“I request tranquility as I have nothing personal against anyone,”
Oduol called for a conducive environment to carry out his constitutionally mandated duties, adding that he will continue to serve the people.

“I am prepared to continue carrying out my duties as vice governor,” he said.

The youths invaded Oduol’s office shortly after his return to the county for the first time since the Senate blocked his impeachment last month.

Oduol arrived on Thursday at approximately 3 p.m. and went directly to his office, where he sat for a few minutes before a group of youths invaded the office to evict him.

The action prompted his security team to contact the Siaya police station for reinforcements.

The deputy governor was escorted out of his office by a contingent of police officers under strict security.

As he and some of his supporters navigated the winding streets of Siaya town, police officers flanked his convoy.

Then, Oduol made a stop in the town center, where he addressed the public and condemned the efforts to prevent him from entering his office.

On Thursday, he stated, “We must resist attempts to cause chaos in our country; we may have different opinions, but we are one people.”
Oduol stated on Thursday that if he is unable to reconcile with Orengo, he will not resign from his position.

Oduol insisted that everyone in the county must accept him as the number two official.

“I am hopeful that we can reconcile with Governor Orengo, but I must inform the people of Siaya and the leadership, some of whom believe I will resign, that we cannot. He stated, “I am not resigning from this position.”

They must adjust to William Oduol serving as the vice governor for the next four years. If I resign, these characters will gain strength. They will commit even more theft. Because I am present, there is a reasonable amount of deterrence if there is misappropriation.”
