ODM’s Raila and Kalonzo’s Security Withdrawn
On Tuesday, May 2, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) claimed that the state had withdrawn the personal security of its leader Raila Odinga and his former running mate Martha Karua.
The party noted in a statement that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila’s wife Ida Odinga were also affected.
ODM noted that the decision was made by the government while they led nationwide protests.
The statement read in part, “The Ruto government has ordered the immediate withdrawal of security details for Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, and Kalonzo Musyoka, as well as other elected leaders in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.”

In a separate statement, ODM Communications Director Philip Etale maintained that the withdrawal will not deter the opposition from standing up to the regime.
“Despite the withdrawal of Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, and Kalonzo Musyoka’s security detail, Azimio supporters remain undeterred. They will provide round-the-clock protection for their leaders, he said.

During the protests, the leaders of the Azimio coalition were detained in a meeting at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Upper Hill, Nairobi, where they discussed bipartisan talks-related issues.
They stated that the deployment of police officers in various areas of Nairobi prevented them from presenting their petitions as planned.
“Unfortunately, the chaos prevented us from presenting the petitions to the four offices.
“On their way to begin the presentations, our MPs were denied access to the public office. “Despite being unarmed and peaceful. They were met with tear gas and gunfire,” Karua said at a press conference following the demonstrations.
In addition, Raila demanded that the police respect the rights of the protesters. After claiming that members of his staff were subjected to police brutality.
In a statement released on Tuesday, May 2nd, Raila bemoaned, “The police destroyed our media team’s equipment. While firing tear gas at a gas station.”
On Tuesday, May 2, Azimio la Umoja resumed protests. With supporters and police engaged in a running battle across the country.
