After his detention on Wednesday, Nuru Maloba Okanga was arraigned before the Milimani Law Court on Thursday, November 30.

Documents obtained by PoliticalPulseChat indicate that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) purportedly disseminated inaccurate information on its YouTube channel. The organization was charged with such conduct.

The charging document states that Okanga disseminated the information to undermine President William Ruto on November 20.

“On November 20, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before court using a YouTube account published online a video with intimidating and abusive words.

“Information you knew to be false and calculated to discredit the reputation of a state officer and a which intend to provoke a breach of the peace,” read part of the sheet.

The individual with political aspirations was charged with violating the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act of 2018. The provision stipulates that a defendant may face a five-year prison sentence, a fine of Ksh5 million, or both for disseminating false information on the Internet.

Okanga was overheard in the aforementioned video threatening the President and several of his allies.

Okanga lamented that the opposition was being undermined by the current administration and demanded that it show due regard for ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

Furthermore, he criticized the Kenya Kwanza regime in the nine-minute video, which precipitated his present dilemma.

His wife, meanwhile, disclosed that officers raided his residence and demanded access to his phone in violation of court orders during his arrest.

“I threw his phone under the mattress to prevent them from getting a hold of it. However when they called him, the phone rang under the bed and they reached for it,” she narrated.

The spouse demanded her husband’s release and urged law enforcement to exercise compassion when making arrests. Additionally, she contended that both her phone and Okanga’s were seized before their placing him in the trunk of their vehicle.

Adding insult to injury, Okanga refused to answer his phone, causing his family to be concerned for his welfare and security.

“If someone has broken the law, tell them their charges and arrest them with dignity. I don’t even know where he is being held,” she stated.

Although PoliticalPulseChat attempted to contact Okanga, he was not reachable at the time this article was published.
