ODM Responds to Kalonzo Over Betrayal Claims After Ruto-Raila Deal
ODM party Chairperson Gladys Wanga has denied claims that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga betrayed Kenyans by signing an agreement with President William Ruto.
Speaking during International Womenโs Day celebrations on Saturday, March 8, in Homabay County, Wanga explained that the partnership between Raila and Ruto was meant to bring unity in the country.
She dismissed accusations that Raila joined forces with the president for personal gain, emphasizing that the new broad-based alliance was designed to benefit all Kenyans.
Wanga highlighted that the agreement would help address major issues affecting the country, such as unemployment among the youth and the need for inclusivity.
โYesterday, Raila showed us the way forward and encouraged us to join the broad-based government and support President Rutoโs administration. This decision was not selfish but aimed at bringing Kenyans together,โ Wanga stated.
She further added, โWe fully support Raila Odinga and President Rutoโs commitment to national unity so that every citizen benefits. Some people are saying this is a betrayal, but how can uniting the country be considered a betrayal?โ
Her remarks came just a day after Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka strongly criticized Raila’s agreement with the president, calling it a betrayal of the Kenyan people.

Speaking at the Peopleโs Dialogue Festival in Nairobi on Friday, March 7, Kalonzo urged young Kenyans to reject the new political deal, arguing that it was driven by self-interest.
The Azimio leader insisted that despite the agreement, Railaโs support would not help Ruto secure re-election in 2027.
“If todayโs discussions at KICC do not offer a plan on how Kenyans will be compensated for the lives lost due to police brutality, then nothing meaningful will come from them except betrayal,” Kalonzo stated.
His sentiments were echoed by DAP-Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa, who accused Raila of abandoning his role as an opposition leader to align himself with the government. He warned that history would judge Raila harshly for this move.
“Those who left the opposition to work with President Rutoโs administration should remember that history does not forget. It will judge them accordingly. We have decided to stand with the Gen Zs, and we do so with a clear conscience,” Wamalwa declared.
