ODM Expels Uriri MP Mark Nyamita for Alleged UDA Ties and Party Disruption

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Central Committee, under the leadership of Raila Odinga, expelled Uriri MP Mark Nyamita from the party on Wednesday.

According to a statement from ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the committee accused Nyamita of colluding with state operatives and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to disrupt the party.

This decision followed disturbances at a funeral last week, where Nyamita’s supporters clashed with those of Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, prompting police intervention.

Both Ayacko and Nyamita were called to a disciplinary meeting, which Nyamita did not attend without providing any reason.

“The party wants to distance itself entirely from Nyamita. We have honored his desire to part ways and advise our members in Uriri and Migori that he is a UDA agent aiming to create division within ODM,” the committee declared.

“Nyamita no longer represents the party at any level, and we urge our members to treat him and his supporters accordingly.”

During the committee meeting, ODM’s leadership was informed of a suspected strategy to destabilize ODM-led regions.

This alleged plan involved rebel legislators aligned with President William Ruto and his UDA party.

“The approach appears to be using state power, particularly the police and local administration, to support the so-called rebels in trying to infiltrate our areas of influence,” ODM stated.

In Migori’s situation, ODM claimed that police used teargas on mourners under the guidance of Nyamita.

ODM called on the Ministry of Interior, specifically Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, to cease harassing its supporters and leaders.

“We will be filing official complaints with the relevant authorities in the coming days,” the party warned.
