Nominated MP Sabina Chege Urges Agenda Revision in Ruto-Odinga Peace Talks

Sabina Chege, a nominated member of parliament, has requested that the agenda for the reconciliation negotiations between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga be revised.

Saturday, August 19, in Thika, the former representative of Murang’a County revealed that her faction of the Jubilee Party will propose severe punishments for politicians who lead and sponsor anti-government demonstrations that result in property destruction.

The penalties, according to Chege, will discourage protests that disrupt economic activity and bring certain cities and villages to a standstill during nationwide demonstrations.

She also stated that the former ruling party will advocate for a more inclusive government structure to address the winner-take-all situation, which has been identified as the primary cause of post-election political discord.

“They are discussing the leadership of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Opposition Leader’s Office. “We propose that the Minority Leader positions in Parliament be filled by the runner-up in elections so that they do not feel left out,” she stated.

“We do not wish to see a repeat of what occurred on the streets.”
The lawmaker stated that she and other members of her faction of the Jubilee Party will also push for the adoption of the one man, one shilling revenue sharing model, which was one of the major proposals of the unconstitutional Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

She explained that the model will guarantee that each Kenyan region receives its equitable share of resources.

Earlier in the week, the Chege faction commanded by East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Kanini Kega had threatened legal action if the party was excluded from the negotiations.

The Azimio technical staff is led by Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni.

In the following sixty days, a report will be submitted to Ruto and Raila for their consideration.
